The West Houston Medical Center Volunteers are a vital part of the healthcare team at West Houston Medical Center. The men and women of the Volunteer organization assist in most areas of the hospital, and in 2006 alone, they provided over 30,000 hours of service.

The many volunteer opportunities include areas such as staffing of the information desks, patient registration, emergency department, surgery waiting room, nursing units, and administrative departments. Patients benefit from the multi-talents of the volunteers through patient tray favors, holiday decorations, newborn gifts, and more.

Scholarships for study in the medical field as well as support of many projects within the community are made possible through the volunteer fundraising activities.

We currently have volunteer positions available at our Sugar Land Diagnostic Center for the lobby reception desk Monday through Friday between the hours of 8AM and 5PM.  This is a “meet, greet and direct” position requiring a positive customer service attitude and a desire to help.    The Center is located at 15300 Southwest Freeway at the Sugar Lakes entrance. 

The Volunteer Auxiliary Gift Shop in the main lobby of West Houston Medical Center is in need of sales staff.  Good customer service skills are a must and retail experience is helpful but not required.   Proceeds from our Gift Shop help fund scholarships and community projects.  Call or email for information on days and shifts available.

The Gift Shop carries an eclectic variety of gifts, baby gifts, Ty and Gund plush animals, Chantilly Lane musical bears, balloons, snacks, personal care items including Caren et Cie lotions, plants and fresh flowers.

Our flowers are $8.99 for a bud vase of two flowers, usually roses, baskets at $15.99, $18.99 and $24.99 or we can special order a larger arrangement from our florist.  You can always add a balloon or stuffed animal or any other item in the shop. 

We will deliver at no charge to patients or employees in the hospital or professional building.  Fresh flowers cannot be delivered to ICU but we’ll be happy to take your order and deliver when the patient is transferred out of the unit.
